Week 40 – February 14, 2025
EPISODE 40 of Z-GR! Radio
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I pull from tracks/artists on the playlist (current and archived) and include newer finds that might not be on the list yet (but likely will be).
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 900+ great tracks on that list.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- I’m working with NEWHD on a Featured Artist program, and I’ll note those artists as they appear.
Have fun with the list below, enjoy the artists/music and…

Venus Virgin Tomarz / Parralox – Fly Me To The Moon (Parralox)
It’s no secret that Melbourne’s Parralox is the gold standard when it comes to cover tracks, so it rates that one of the most unique and energetic reimaginations that I’ve come across has the Parralox remix stamp on it – Bart Howard’s ‘In Other Words’ was written in 1954 and recorded hundreds of times and famously by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Count Basie – the song was renamed to ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ along the way , and Venus Virgin Tomarz, a wonderfully flamboyant Australian trans artist takes the song to a whole new level on this week’s opener.

Red Javelin – Stockholm Parade
I had Sweden’s Red Javelin’s ‘Stockholm Parade’ back on Episode 8 – I really love the way the track opens big and never lets up all the way down to the awesome guitar solo and closeout spoken vocal. – Fun fact – that track is a nod to Greta Thornburg who began her climate activist journey outside of the Swedish Parliament.

Nature of Wires / CeCe X – Keys
‘Keys’ has a distinctive female empowerment bent and I’m here for it – UK Artist known not-so-simply as Nature of Wires teamed up with CeCe X, AKA CeCe Xavier for the track- CeCe X has been part of the electronic music scene since the 90s and has worked with dance scene luminaries The Prodigy and Moby.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whWg0cN8nGwSocial Ambitions – Pay The Price
I am a huge fan of Stockholm’s Social Ambitions and their 2020 record ‘A New Frontier’ – the band, made up of founders Anders Karlsson and Mikael Arborelius, is known for expertly blending classic synthpop with indie pop, techno, rock and new wave, and ‘Pay the Price’ is a great example of why I like this band so much.

They Kiss – I Am Digital
They Kiss is another awesome Los Angeles Synth-pop duo – Anna Mak hails from San Francisco and Cash Civetta is from NYC, they crossed paths along the way and we’re all better for it. I had ‘I Am Digital’ back on Episode 12 and their awesome joint with Julian Lennon was on Episode 26. It’s definitely worth taking the time to check out their entire library.

Something Broke – Lonely Voyager
Something Broke is Tristan Hendrix, who works with various singers and artists on a breakneck release schedule – All royalties earned go to nature and animal foundations who attempt to reverse damaging human interactions with nature on earth – Ccheck out his stuff and if you like it, drop a buck or two into his library.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAvuvVCsbn4Weird Wolves – Instamerica
Austin’s Weird Wolves were a week one artist on the show and are a Z-GR! Radio favorite. This is their fifth appearance on the show – ‘Instamerica’ is a satirical take on America’s infatuation with near-useless Social Media influencers and can be found on the excellent 2024 album ‘My Dreams Are Calling You’.

Zero-G Racetrack – Slave To My Ego
As Z-GR!’s vocalist, I have some insight on this track – I wrote the vocal as I was transitioning out of a long-term relationship, and realized that I had boxed up several things that I liked about myself to accommodate the relationship. The track is about self-realization within the context of a personal reboot, and making sure that you don’t go sideways during the renovation.

Jam-Tako – Angel City
Not sure how I missed Japan’s Jam-Tako, by there’s no time like the present to catch up – they formed WAY back in 2002 and are still at it – they’re a trio of high school classmates who share the instrumental responsibilities – they’ve got a modern ‘70’s vibe, and I really dig it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWa0qdwCdaMCrumbsnatchers – Satin Glow
A few months back, I got an email from Nashville’s Crumbsnatcher’s publicist telling me how great their latest record ‘Petsway’ is. They weren’t lying and I had their joint with fellow Nashvillians ‘Flight Attendant’ on Episode 32 – I decided to give them their own space this week with ‘Satin Glow’ – make sure you take a minute to check out their video for the song, as it is a lot of fun.

Geminii Dragon – Good Thang
I stumbled across the Geminii Dragon back in 2021 and I’ve been a big fan since – when it comes to the blues, this dragon’s got the goods – she’s from Louisiana, and definitely puts in the work to get her message out by touring all over the Southern states and beyond. She’s been on my playlist a few times and this track ‘Good Thang’ is a favorite of mine.

Pussywillows – Peach
I was checking out Georgia duo of best pals Carly Gibson and Hannah Zale – they go by the name of The Pussywillows – when I came across a track that knocked me over – ‘Peach’ has a 70’s blues groove that can only be described as awesome and some really cool lyrics. They’ve got a bunch of other great tracks in their library, so make sure you check them out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux_Yyf042_AAlabama 3 – Thank You
London’s Alabama 3 are best known for supplying the theme song for the Sopranos back in 1997, but their recent releases are really taking off. Lately, they’ve been doing modern dance tracks that veer away from the electro-country vibe but are still laced with smart lyrics- whenever I hear a line like ‘The Metaverse is on cocaine’, you can bet that the song’s going to be on the show. The song’s called ‘Thank You’ and I’d like to thank Alabama 3, for bringing a groovy vibe and dripping sarcasm to the party on the back of a Hammond.

Dimi Kaye – Greyhounds
I was playing my Bass through heavy distortion the other day, and I decided that I wanted to close this week’s show with something heavy, yet synthy. Dimi Kaye’s ‘Greyhounds’ fits the bill, right down to the 2:10 mark, when he tries to shred your face off for 15 seconds because Dimi Kaye shreds faces.
