Week 36 - January 17, 2025
EPISODE 36 of Z-GR! Radio
Z-GR! Radio overview right from your Host:
- My name is Scot Apathy – I’m the lead singer for Zero-G Racetrack, and I curate the ‘Floating Around the Racetrack’ Spotify/YouTube playlist. It’s not a pay for play list; I personally choose what’s on it based on what I hear. True story.
- For Z-GR! Radio, I pull from tracks/artists on the playlist (current and archived) and include newer finds that might not be on the list yet (but likely will be).
- The artists included come from myriad genres, geographical locations and stage of growth. I stay away from mainstream established artists, but I will play artists that I’ve followed as they grow. I love it when emerging artists gain traction, and I like to celebrate it.
- I include a cover song each week, and highly recommend checking out MetroVeteran’s (Ruel Smith) ‘Synthwave Covers’ Spotify playlist. There are 900+ great tracks on that list.
- I post a page like this each week to help you find out more about the artists you heard on this week’s show and to make it easy to do so.
- I’m working with NEWHD on a Featured Artist program, and I’ll note those artists as they appear.
Have fun with the list below, enjoy the artists/music and…

Episode 36 - On Demand
Z-GR! Radio Episode 36 Lineup
Alexa Villa / Own It
Southern California native Alexa Villa has been described as a Boss Babe charisma with unapologetic vocals and I agree with that assessment – she was on the first Episode of Z-GR! Radio and has appeared on the show a few times since – this track always seemed a bit heavy for what we do around here, but the truth is, it’s a perfect opener for this week’s Rock Block.
Coach Party - Micro Aggression
Coach Party appeared on my playlist back in 2023 and I really don’t have a good excuse as to why they haven’t been on Z-GR! Radio yet, but I’m always the first to admit and correct such oversites. Coach Party proclaims themselves the best band in the world, and while I know for a fact that my band, Zero-G Racetrack is the best band in the world, it’s pretty hard to argue against the fact that Coach Party has something really, really awesome going on.

Dez Rocket - Kiss Me (Where It Hurts)
Forty Feet Tall - Crash And Burn
I really do like Portland’s Forty Feet Tall – these guys have a nicely polished bar band sound which tracks since everything I’ve read indicates that if you get in a room with them, they’ll stick a guitar or two in your ear. ‘Crash and Burn’ does nothing to counter the notion…this is a banging track that should sound awesome live.
Señor Dinosaur - Buffalo
The Space Sharks - Ready to Fly
The Space Sharks are Lonnie Richard and Michael Martino. They’re based out of Baltimore and Boston and have been doing their thing since 2010. I really dig their modern psychedelic sound and I think you will too. ‘Ready to Fly’ is off of their 2020 ‘Space Songs’ EP – It’s been a long minute since their last release in 2022, but they are active on their socials so I’m hoping to see some new material in the near future. Do yourself a favor and check their stuff out.
Amy Douglas - Dirty Whiskey
Resident Z-GR! Radio Disco Diva Amy Douglas self-describes as dance music’s bonafide Rock Chick, and she decided to show everyone why by closing out 2024 with the release of her heavy rock record Feints, which stands in stark but welcome contrast to her established funky disco vibe. I’ve reached deep into the back half of the album for ‘Dirty Whiskey’.

Zero-G Racetrack - Sexy Pretty Thing
Andy Carhart - Blackbird
I had the pleasure of sitting down for a chat with Andy Carhart a few months back for Episode 18 – since then I’ve doubled the show count without having him back on the show, which in retrospect seems a ridiculous oversight. Easy enough to fix – Andy’s excellent cover of the Beatles’ ‘Blackbird’ gives me the perfect opportunity to close out the week’s hard rock block and shift gears into a set of some really fantastic indie rock.

Melinda Kausek / Sam Feinstein / TK Tran - The Old Familiar
Melinda Kausek’s latest, ‘The Old Familiar’, explores the reality that we’re all wearing out with each passing day. Melinda’s vocal comes across as more curious than morbid, and she’s enlisted Z-GR! Radio artist Sam Feinstein and TK Tran to add depth to a really great track.

Strange and the Familiars - Strange World
I really, really like Portland’s Strange and the Familiars. Fronted by Stephanie Strange, the band has a distinctly dark yet completely approachable vibe, and I was taken immediately by ‘Strange World’, the title track off of their 2021 album.

The Future Us - Resolution
Another band way overdue for an appearance on the show, Scotland’s The Future Us have a great Classic Rock sound, and a catalog that is well worth checking out. I zeroed in on 2022’s ‘Resolution’ for it’s modern 60’s vibe and the fact that it got stuck in my head for several days, whichalways guarantees a spot on the lineup.

Gingsu - Mommy Issues
I’ll be playing us out with an artist that is anything but emerging, but they’re so awesome that you need to hear them if you haven’t already. Australian King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard is ridiculously amazing – after stumbling over them and including ‘Interior People’ on my playlist, I found out just how powerful a creative force they are through an interesting youtube video that outlines their prolific release schedule. It’s linked on the wrapup page and is well worth a look. This is ‘Interior People’, I am Scot Apathy and I’ll see you next week here on NEWHD Rock Evolution.
